Mrs. Scott’s 5th grade Social Studies class recently finished a unit of study that focused on the Early Civilizations.
Students learned how indigenous communities used totem poles to tell stories, honor heritage and preserve family traditions.
To connect this historical concept to their own lives, students designed totem poles featuring symbols, images and items that reflect their personal interests and family traditions.
Serena Middle School Soccer ended their season tonight in Somonauk with a loss to Paw Paw in the Junior 10 Championship Round, thus taking 2nd Place. Way to finish strong Huskers! Thank you to Coach Bartkus and Coach Govednik for a great season.

7th & 8th Girls Basketball both had wins against Earlville at home. Willa and Izzy earned the Hustling Husker in tonight's games, and Cori earned it at the Newark game Sept 30th.
5th & 6th were on the road in Morris tonight.

The Junior 10 Soccer Tournament Serena vs Somonauk was a game made for tournament action. Teamwork was on point!
Easton channeled his inner brick wall at the goal. His massive penalty kick save with 24 seconds left took the Huskers into overtime.
Huskers entered into double overtime and brought the game to an end with Owen's hat trick.
Great job Huskers! Heading back to Somonauk for the Championship game vs Paw Paw at 5:45 pm.

⭐️ SMS STAFF SPOTLIGHT ⭐️
Matt Makeever & Melinda Vesely from Empowering Minds shared a presentation focused on building awareness, identifying support systems and knowing when and how to ask for help.
An important part of the presentation was helping students understand that asking for help is a sign of strength.
Students were also reminded that being a good friend does not mean they are responsible for solving another person's problems. Instead, if they are concerned about themselves or someone else, one of the most important things they can do is tell an adult and seek help.
It is our hope that the students left the presentation with a greater understanding of the importance of mental health, a stronger awareness of the people and resources available to support them, and the confidence to reach out when help is needed.
Above all, we hope that every student knows that they matter, they belong and there are adults who care about them and are ready to listen and help.
